&&Break away from everything..
&&CHARACTERS NAME: Nikolai (Nee-co-lie)
&&CHARACTERS AGE: 4
&&CHARACTERS BREED: West Highland White Terrier
&&TOWN LIVING IN: Chicago, the Windy City
&&Tonight we start the fire..
&&CHARACTERS GOALS: Niko is set to
1) prove to the larger canines that smaller breeds are just as respectable as their larger counter-parts.
2) Get over her fear of falling and heights
3) Find someone she can share her accomplishments with
&&CHARACTERS DREAMS: Niko dreams of living in Chicago without ever feeling like she's being judged by the length of her legs.
&&CHARACTERS ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Niko has trained her entire life to be a lean/mean/15-pound-ball of white fur. Because of this, she can run just as fast as a larger dog (with a large amount of effort from her, of course...and is exhausted afterwards). She takes pride on being able to keep up with just about any canine she comes along
&&CHARACTERS FEARS: Niko is TERRIFIED of heights. she once climbed up the big tall building in downtown Chicago to see what it was like from the top and to try and conquer her fear...but failed miserably. All she achieved that day was leaving her mark on the top floor...by accidentally urinating all over the old carpet while she had a panic-attack.
&&Tonight I break away..
&&CHARACTERS PERSONALITY: Niko is what can be called a spastic dog. Every bit of her fifteen-pound figure is known to go straight from a dead stop to an all-out sprint … just because she felt like it. But in a tough scene like Chicago; she has to be like that in order to survive. Niko is a highly goal-oriented and driven individual, focused on a seemingly impossible task: to earn the respect of the larger canines in her fair Windy City. She plans to fight tooth and nail for the rest of her life until that goal is reached…or until she can do-so no more. No, Niko is NOT a violent, blood-thirsty canine, wanting to fight every 80 pound dog she comes across. Instead, she feels the need to always out-perform those individuals, making normally mundane tasks into the most extreme competition anyone has ever witnessed. Her strange desire to be respected and seen as more than just a fifteen-pound-ball of fluff developed early on in Niko’s life, when she was a young pup. Ever since, whenever she is around a considerably larger canine, she has a high pang of jealousy strike her, which is accompanied by an urge to prove herself; even if there is no such need.
Besides her overpowering desire to ‘be the best’, Niko is a very lighthearted individual whenever she is around canines she doesn’t feel like she has a point to prove. She is usually the one to start up a game of keep-away or a good-natured wrestling match. She is loyal and would never even consider to give away a secret that was entrusted to her mind. Once in the vault of Niko…always in the vault; never to come out again. She also has a weakness for any type of poultry. Hunting birds is her specialty, mainly because it is her favorite meal, and will do just about anything to get her kill. A close second to birds are snakes and any other type of reptile she can sink her teeth into…because they taste so similar.
&&CHARACTERS SEX: Female
&&CHARACTERS HISTORY: Niko’s past is one full of humiliation, in her own opinion. Yes, she grew up in the typical loving den (which was made in an old condo off of lakeshore drive, no less) with two of the best parents a dog could ever ask for… but neither of them seemed to care about what others thought about their daughters. Niko had three other siblings in her litter…all female. It was a blast for her from the start, by far the most competitive of the bunch. With only girls to go up against, it was simple for her to outperform them in their juvenile games of tug-of-war and tag. All she ever needed to do was want it bad enough…and soon enough, the young-Niko had it in her paws. Of course, everything that landed there was a result of her highly driven motivation to WIN.
When Niko finally was old enough to leave the condo and go out and explore the streets of Chicago on her own however…it was a real eye-opener as to how the canine world viewed smaller breeds: useless. Her and her three sisters had barely been out of the building for an hour when a group of larger pups, consisting of Huskies, German Shepherds, and Collies found the Westies and began jeering at their small white bodies, laughing at their short legs and slightly elongated torsos, calling them ‘mutant weenie dogs’. This infuriated Niko, and she quickly rose up against their taunts, challenging them to a game of tug-of-war. Nearly in tears and not believing their ears, the group of larger pups ignored Niko’s request at finding out who the better grip was. Instead they just scoffed at her, turning their noses up at such an absurd request. That was the day Niko realized she would have to fight to earn her respect, and promised herself that she wouldn’t rest until she was able to redeem herself in the eyes of all canines.
If it wasn’t for her good family-life, Niko would have most likely turned out to be a bitter, jaded dog. But thanks to the guidance of her father, she was able to learn and develop her competitive nature into something she could use to her advantage. She was taught to never give up, and always remain loyal. To always remain true to herself, and never bend to the will of selfish others. Niko realizes that she has much to thank her father for, and still remains close to him to this day, although he now lives on the outskirts of the city, and Niko has not seen him for quite a while. As for her sisters, they are scattered about the city, content with being submissive ‘little’ dogs, doing whatever it is the more dominant and larger dogs desire. Niko has given up showing them how to stand up for themselves.
